A complete shringar typically includes: a mukut (crown) or pagdi (turban), a mala or haar (garland or necklace), a bansuri (flute) in the left hand, kundal (earrings), kangana (bracelets or armlets), and a jhula (swing). For a decorated setting, a singhasan (throne) and charpai (small decorative bed) for resting are also traditional. You do not need all accessories at once. Start with the mukut and mala, then add other items gradually as your seva deepens.

A simple and always-reliable rule is to match gold-toned jewellery with saffron, red, blue or green poshak, and silver-toned jewellery with white, grey, pastel or winter poshak. For festival shringar, contrast works beautifully: a deep blue poshak with golden mukut is a classic combination rooted in tradition. Avoid mixing too many competing colours in accessories; let the poshak be the centrepiece and keep jewellery complementary rather than competing.

Most devoted households change the poshak once a day as part of the morning shringar ritual after the bath. Some families follow a twice-daily change, a lighter poshak for the day and a more elaborate one for evening aarti. There is no single rule. Follow what feels right for your personal seva practice and the time you have available.

Look for sellers who clearly state the fabric composition (e.g., pure silk versus art silk, real zari versus imitation zari) in their product descriptions. Video clips of the poshak being handled, close-up photographs of the embroidery, and fabric weight details are all good signs of transparency. At Gopalji Fashion, every product listing specifies the exact fabric and embellishment type, and you can always WhatsApp us for a short video or additional photos before placing your order.

Yes, buying online is safe when you purchase from verified sellers with clear return policies, real product photos and accessible customer support. Check whether the seller has a WhatsApp number or phone number you can reach directly. This is a strong trust signal for small Indian brands. At Gopalji Fashion, we share detailed product photos and videos on request, have a 7-day exchange policy, and can be reached on WhatsApp before, during and after your order. Always pay through secure methods like UPI or net banking rather than direct cash transfer to unknown accounts.

Janmashtami calls for the most celebratory poshak in your collection. Traditionally, royal blue (Krishna's own colour), golden yellow and peacock tones are the most auspicious choices. Heavy work with zardosi buttis and pearl work is ideal as it makes your gopalji feel royal. Many devotees also dress Laddu Gopal in a small pagdi (turban) or morpankh (peacock feather) crown as a reference to Krishna's iconic appearance in Vrindavan.

Navratri has a different auspicious colour for each of the nine nights, and many devotees follow this colour calendar for their Laddu Gopal's poshak as well. The traditional sequence runs: grey, orange, white, red, royal blue, yellow, green, peacock blue and pink across the nine days. If you do not have nine separate poshak, prioritise red (associated with Maa Durga's shakti), yellow (prosperity) and white (purity) as your core Navratri set.

Getting the right fit for your Laddu Gopal

Sizing

Laddu Gopal idols are categorised in sizes from 0 (smallest, about 3-4 inches) to 5 (about 8-10 inches) and beyond. To determine your idol's size, measure the height from the base of the feet to the top of the head without the mukut. You can refer to our detailed Size Guide page for a complete measurement chart. If you are still unsure, send us a photo of your Laddu Gopal next to a ruler on WhatsApp and we will tell you the exact size.

If your Laddu Gopal falls between two standard sizes, we always recommend choosing the larger size. A slightly loose poshak is easier to adjust and looks better than a tight one. All our poshak come with adjustable ties and tucks that allow you to fine-tune the fit. Alternatively, you can opt for our custom sizing service where we make a poshak exactly to your idol's measurements.

Yes, we make poshak for all sizes starting from size 0 (approximately 3-4 inches height), which is among the smallest Laddu Gopal forms. Size 0 and size 1 poshak require particular delicacy in stitching given their tiny dimensions, and all our small-size pieces are hand-finished to ensure clean edges and a neat fit. If your idol is size 0 or 1 and you are unsure of the fit, we strongly recommend using our custom sizing option or sending us your idol's measurements via WhatsApp.

Yes, we cater to larger idol sizes including size 8, 10 and beyond through our custom order service. Large idols require more fabric and additional embellishment work, so pricing is calculated on the basis of the idol's measurements rather than a standard rate. For sizes above 5, please reach out to us on WhatsApp with your Laddu Gopal's height, chest and arm-span measurements so we can give you an accurate quotation and timeline.

Understanding fabrics, zari and embellishments

Materials

For summer months, we recommend cotton and georgette poshak as they are lightweight, breathable and prevent moisture buildup. Chanderi silk is also an excellent summer option as it is airy and cool while still looking elegant. Avoid heavy velvet and brocade during summer as they can trap heat. Our Summer Collection is put together specifically with warm-weather-friendly fabrics.

Yes, all our fabrics are carefully selected and tested to be safe for all common idol materials including marble, brass, stone, wood and ashtadhatu (eight-metal alloy). We avoid any harsh dyes or chemical treatments that could stain or corrode your idol's surface.

For daily seva (nitya shringar), cotton and chanderi (for summer months), woollen and velvet (for winter months) are the most practical choices. They are gentle on the idol and comfortable for everyday use. Silk and brocade are better reserved for festivals, ekadashi and special occasions where the extra lustre and richness make a meaningful difference to the shringar. A good starting approach is to keep two or three cotton poshak for daily rotation and invest in one or two silk pieces for celebratory days.

Velvet poshak are ideal for winter months (November through February) and grand festivals that fall within this cozy winter period like Diwali, Annakut and Govardhan Puja, when their plush warmth and jewel-toned depth look most striking. Avoid velvet during summer and monsoon months as the thick pile can trap heat and moisture. Velvet is also the best base fabric for heavy zardozi and stone embellishments, so it is worth investing in at least one velvet piece for your winter festival collection.

Zardozi is a heavy hand-embroidery technique that uses gold and silver metallic threads, beads, sequins and sometimes precious or semi-precious stones to create intricate raised patterns directly on the fabric. Unlike flat embroidery stitches, zardozi creates a three-dimensional texture that catches light richly. On poshak, zardozi is most commonly used on velvet and silk bases and is associated with Mughal craftsmanship traditions. Poshak with genuine zardozi work are in the luxury segment and are particularly suited for Janmashtami and Diwali shringar.

Care and Craftsmanship

The craft of devotion lives in the fabric and its care

Washing, storage and maintenance tips

Care

For plain silk poshak without heavy embroidery, hand wash gently in cold water using a mild silk detergent or baby shampoo. Never wring the fabric. Instead, press water out between two clean towels. Dry in shade on a flat surface, as direct sunlight can fade silk. For embroidered or embellished silk poshak, dry cleaning is strongly recommended. Never machine wash silk poshak.

Store clean, completely dry poshak in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Wrap each piece individually in soft muslin cloth or acid-free tissue paper. Never use plastic bags as they trap moisture and can cause mildew. Add neem leaves or lavender sachets to deter insects. For velvet poshak, store them rolled rather than folded to prevent crush marks. Air out your stored poshak every 2-3 months, especially during the monsoon season.

Poshak with stone settings, beads, mirrors or heavy sequins should not be fully submerged in water, as the adhesive or stitching holding the embellishments can weaken when wet. Spot-cleaning with a damp soft cloth is the safest home method.

Act quickly: blot (do not rub) the stain with a clean, dry white cloth to absorb as much of the substance as possible. Never rub velvet as this flattens the pile permanently. For light stains, hold the area over steam from a kettle for a few seconds, then gently brush with a soft velvet brush in the direction of the pile. For stubborn stains, take the poshak to a dry cleaner. Avoid all home scrubbing or soaking of velvet poshak.
